Boy Raises 50000 for Haiti
I was touched by a story on the news program this week detailing the extraordinary story of a young boy raising money for the Haiti campaign, and made me feel pleased that there are some incredible people about today.
Charlie, who is only seven years old set about raising £500 for the sufferers of the Haiti earthquake on 12th January, except he actually raised £50,000, much more than he could ever have hoped for. He set about riding his bike around his park in an effort to raise the money, and managed to raise this staggering amount.
It not only shows how kind some people are, but also how generous people are in donating, especially for this disaster that has already claimed many hundreds of thousands of lives, and left almost a million children without parents. This money will certainly help towards rebuilding Haiti, and rebuilding people’s broken lives.
It also shows how much you can achieve if you set about it in the correct manor, as people will be more than willing to offer some help to the victims. I was very humbled, and I offer nothing but praise for this extraordinary boy. Well done to you.
It comes during another week in which this disaster has dominated the news programs, and it is heartbreaking to see the collapse of Haiti, as now hunger and desperation are setting in. it seems that things are only getting worse at the moment, and there seems little that can be done. Aid is getting through, although very slowly, and not always to those that need it, but the trouble is, people are now desperate for aid, and will do anything necessary to survive. This makes the aid effort all the more dangerous, and makes a difficult job even more perilous.
I watched as people rifled through garbage looking for anything they can use, from bits of cardboard, to goods from local stores. These same people were happy, proud and content with what they had not weeks ago, and now their lives have been turned upside down. It was hard enough to see the devastation from the earthquake, but now we will see the inevitable demise of a town already on its knees, and it pains me to see it.
So I commend a little boy on his heroics to raise such a substantial amount of money, as I commend all that have donated in any way to this tragedy, and I only hope that some form of normality will return to these people who desperately need our help. Long may the exemplary aid efforts continue, and hopefully the suffering can ease.

This is most certainly the correct manner in which people can help. Touching story. It is completely human for us to want to help those in need. It is a great human quality.
Unfortunately, survival is also a completely human quality. In fact, it’s out greatest driving force. The riots in Haiti are no surprise to me. It is simply people trying to survive. Any human would do the same in that immense desperation, I think.
Good article.
